About Jugendstilsenteret/The Art Nouveau Centre
The Art Nouveau Centre was opened by HM Queen Sonja of Norway on 6 June 2003, and is a national centre for art nouveau/ Jugendstil. The centre occupies the listed Svaneapoteket pharmacy building, right in the heart of Ålesund. Much of the original interior of the building has been preserved and restored. The centre has permanent and temporary exhibitions spread over three floors. Exhibits include a broad selection of Norwegian art nouveau objects, from advertising to jewellery, in addition to several multi-media shows.
The Art Nouveau Centre has a gift shop and café. The museum’s archives and library are open to the public during opening hours. The centre employs an expert on art history, architecture and building conservation, and a documentation officer.
It is run, together with the art museum Kunstmuseet KUBE, by Stiftelsen Kulturkvartalet.
